Canopy By Hilton : An Eco-conscious Urban Oasis

Canopy by Hilton London City is UK’s first Canopy hotel by Hilton, offering the dependable quality of Hilton infused with a contemporary, boutique hotel flair. Crafted with discerning travellers in mind who value design and sustainability, this eco-conscious hotel boasts a prime location in London’s vibrant East End. Located just a short stroll from the Tower of London, Canopy by Hilton, perfectly captures the energetic, diverse essence of the East London neighbourhood.

The striking exteriors of the hotel immediately grab attention, with 1,900 rotating aluminium fins forming a geometric facade that contrasts the neighbouring high rises. Sustainability lies at the heart of Canopy by Hilton, the innovative building design was in fact constructed by recycling two former buildings.

As you step inside, the lobby’s thoughtful design reveals the meticulous attention to detail by the ACME team. The space combines neutral, earthy tones, while the furnishings are contemporary in style from green velvet sofas, to pendant lights, that carry a distinct vintage charm. The commitment to sustainability can be witnessed from the moment you step inside, with Canopy’s signature orange bicycles at reception which are available complimentary for guests to use, encouraging an environmentally friendly way to explore the city.

Paying homage to local heritage of the East End, the hotel takes inspiration from Huguenot silk weavers who settled in Spitalfields in the 17th century along with its current surroundings. Injecting local flavour, Canopy by Hilton provides an authentic experience deeply rooted in the local culture, for example, contemporary artwork created by neighbourhood artists adorns the corridors that lead up to the rooms, the rooms and dining spaces feature floral patterns and woven fabrics reminiscent of the techniques employed by the Huguenots.

Canopy by Hilton features 340 opulent rooms and suites, choose between one of six rooms; the Queen Room, Twin Room, King Room, Queen Premium Room, King Premium Room and King Junior Suite. The hotel rooms bring to life the hidden layers of history that have shaped the backdrop of Canopy by Hilton, using materials and patterns. They also stay faithful to the original late modernist design of the concrete frame, leaving it exposed wherever possible.

All the rooms exude an unmistakable sense of elegance and refinement, with ambient lighting, a soothing neutral colour theme that is occasionally punctuated by vibrant accents like metallic lamps and plush furnishings. The best part of the rooms is probably the view over the London skyline. Some rooms offer more picturesque views than others, and the higher your room is, the more likely you are to be treated to a better panoramic view. A select few Junior Suites feature a Peloton bike, the introduction of the Peloton bike is a recent addition to the hotel, made possible through a collaboration between Hilton and Peloton. Moreover, Canopy London City also offers a range of pet-friendly rooms.

The eco-conscious ethos extends into the bedrooms and is evident at every turn, the beds are crafted from reclaimed steel and sustainably sourced wood from forests dedicated to conservation. The toiletries are eco-friendly, all the rooms come with a carafe, to reduce single-use plastic consumption and water refilling stations on every floor. Even the room key cards are made from wood to align with the sustainable practices.

Canopy houses three distinct dining options, the St. Clare Coffee and Bar, which during the day serves as a trendy spot where you can enjoy coffee, lunch, and a relaxed workspace. Come evening, it transforms into an inviting hotel bar, offering a variety of hand-crafted cocktails, and all day menu. On site, Penny Squares specialises in British cuisine. The highlight, however lies on the 11th floor – the rooftop bar Florattica.
