Cape Verde

Of course, you could spend the full month sun-bathing and listen to the crashing of the waves. However, there’s much more to the island country than that. Costa Rica

January is an ideal time to visit the haven that is Costa Rica. The majority of the tourists have left and the country is just entering the dry season. For a truly awe-inspiring sight, head north to visit Rio Celeste. The magical aquamarine river is one of Costa Rica’s great attractions. Its stunning light blue colour and gorgeous waterfall have made it one of the most enchanting spots in Central America. Burma (Yangon)

The south-east Asian country enjoys a very pleasant warm and dry climate throughout the month. Burma is a cultural gem with magnificent pagodas and temples dotted around the country. Argentina

Spend all of January in mighty Argentina and you won’t even scratch the surface of what it has to offer. Visitors could head north to Mendoza to sample some of the very finest wines on the planet. Head south to Patagonia to explore the Glacier National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with incredible ice mountains. Cape Town
