Hotel Castello Di Reschio : A Look Inside
Ever wanted to experience what it’s like to stay in a genuine castle yourself? Well, now you can at the Hotel Castello Di Reschio
Located within the Reschio Estate, this 1000-year-old Italian castle has been renovated into a luxury hotel amongst the 3700 acres of beautiful rolling hills, mysterious valleys, and relaxing forests. It really is a picture-perfect Umbria. Originally brought by Count Antonio Bolza 25 years ago and now led by his son, Count Benedikt, and his wife, Donna Nencia, this new luxury hotel in Umbria within the stonewalled castle sure has an interesting history.
With the help of local artisans, carpenters, stonemasons, and tile makers, the design led Hotel Castello Di Reschio castle has come to life. While remaining true to the building’s history, they have managed to bring modern grace to the interior of the castle’s walls. It is a place renowned for its warm Italian hospitality and encourages families of all sizes to enjoy their stay.
Featuring 36 rooms located inside the castle and 6 suites inside in the former Vestry, adjacent to the San Michele Church, overlooking the garden courtyard and far-reaching views over the Reschio hills. Rooms and suites contained within these ancient castle walls are imbued with personality and panache, thanks to the organic approach to contemporary design coupled with a discerning nod to the intriguing characters that once called this home.
Our favourite is the 2-bed suite in the highest tower of the castle and spreading over five floors with a stunning terrace. Relax on the day bed in the terrace or on the roof garden with an open-air tub, soak up the atmosphere with incredible 360° views of the landscape in the surrounding Umbrian hills.
The décor is subtle and sensual with bespoke furniture ancient wooden beams, hand-stitched linen curtain, all flooded with natural light, with views both out over the rolling countryside and into the oval castle courtyard. The walls are lined with old photographs and ornaments discovered in local antique markets and ancient wooden beams and terracotta floors giving it a contemporary look that allows you to reflect on the estate’s history and ponder about who might have lived there.
Hotel Castello Di Reschio culinary offering is sustainability, with the hotel championing a fully farm-to-fork ethos. The ingredients on your plate are as fresh as they can be from, freshly picked vegetables from the kitchen garden, olive oil from their own trees, truffles from the nearby forests and fresh fish.
The authentic Italian food is served up in cinematic locations: Ristorante Al Castello and Bar Centrale, which is the centrepiece and almost an artwork in its own right. Relaxing afternoon tea is also on offer at the palm court or head to the poolside Torrino bar for some freshly made juices or cocktails. If that wasn’t enough 1,500-hectare estate also produces outstanding light reds and rosés, and some Reschio houses have their own private vineyards, where the head winemaker oversees the careful wine production for owners.
Hotel Castello Di Reschio offers a plethora of things to do on the estate’s premises. For those that enjoy water, there is a clam lake where you can take part in paddleboarding, fishing and even hire out the lake cabin for the day. Those of you that like being active, you can enjoy biking around the estate, tennis on the court, and truffle hunting in the forests during the truffle hunting season. If you’re looking to be a bit more creative, you can take part in the olive oil pressing and honey making.
You can also visit the stable to have some horse riding lessons.
For those rainy days head inside where Hotel Castello Di Reschio have converted the castle’s ancient wine cellar into a bathhouse with a roman-styled bath, sauna and treatment room. Located just outside the castle walls is the outdoor swimming pool for those warmer days.
