Michelin Starred Restaurants In UK And Ireland 2023
The Michelin Guide announces its updated list of the best restaurants in the UK and Ireland annually. The Michelin Starred Restaurants list remains one of the most significant honours in the British culinary scene eagerly anticipated by chefs and food enthusiasts alike. Its latest ratings reveal which restaurants have earned, retained, or lost their coveted star status.
The 2023 Michelin Starred Restaurants In UK And Ireland list has been unveiled. In the UK, there are a total of 188 restaurants that have received a Michelin star rating. Among these, 160 restaurants have been awarded one Michelin star, of which 20 restaurants were awarded their first-ever Michelin star. 20 have been given two Michelin stars, and only 8 restaurants hold the highest rating of three Michelin stars, with no new restaurants receiving this honour in 2023.
Meanwhile, in Ireland, there are 18 restaurants that have received at least one Michelin star, consisting of 13 one-star restaurants and 5 two-star restaurants. Alongside these prestigious awards, the guide also acknowledges value-for-money dining spots with its Bib Gourmands, and highlights chefs striving towards sustainable practices with its Green Stars.

The Green Star was introduced to the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland in January 2021. It highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices. These restaurants offer dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments, and are a source of inspiration both for keen foodies and the hospitality industry as a whole.
Every Green Star restaurant is different and works in its own unique way. The Inspectors are simply looking for those at the top of their game when it comes to their sustainable practices. They consider things such as: the provenance of the ingredients; the use of seasonal produce; the restaurant’s environmental footprint; food waste systems; general waste disposal and recycling; resource management; and the communication between the team and the guests about the restaurant’s sustainable approach.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides says: “With 20 new Bib Gourmand restaurants joining the 2023 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Great Britain & Ireland, our inspectors have spotlighted establishments that stand out for their fine and generous cooking across a diverse range of styles; places that really deserve to be known by gourmets looking for good quality, good value cooking. As chefs in Great Britain & Ireland face rising day-to-day costs – from the raw ingredients they purchase to the energy they use to keep their kitchens and restaurants running – it is heartening to see many of them also finding inventive ways to create affordable menus and keep costs down for their guests, while still offering creative and exciting culinary experiences.”
